How it works
Camera reads the plate. Lease decides the rest.
Camera support
- HikVision & Dahua with built-in ANPR — Wiegand or relay output direct to gate operator
- Genetec AutoVu with the MLC engine for enterprise multi-site deployments
- Plate Recognizer cloud or on-prem (Linux, Windows, Jetson, Raspberry Pi) — 50–100 ms inference
- Any RTSP camera with a server-side recognizer running on your premises or DwellPort Cloud
- Wiegand, OSDP, dry-contact relay, and REST integrations to gate operators (LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, DoorKing, HySecurity)
Multi-gate, multi-zone

Allow-list automation
- Active lease → resident's vehicles on the allow-list automatically
- Move-out date → access expires that day at midnight
- Eviction filed → access suspended (configurable grace period)
- Past-due balance → optional access hold (off by default; some HOA bylaws require it)
- Manual override and audit log for property-manager exceptions
Privacy & compliance
- State-specific ALPR retention enforced (CA, NH, ME, VT have explicit caps)
- Default 60-day plate-image retention; configurable per property
- No facial recognition — plates only. BIPA-clear in Illinois.
- Resident notice in leases (we provide template language by state)
- Per-resident "do not log" opt-out where state law requires it
Match accuracy
What you can actually expect.
Vendor marketing pages tend to claim 99% accuracy. The honest version is more like 95–99% on clean US plates under good conditions, degrading with weather, plate angle, illumination, dirty plates, and motion blur. The DHS Science & Technology June 2025 ALPR Market Survey is the best independent benchmark we've seen.
DwellPort doesn't ship a recognizer of its own — we integrate the ones that work and keep score. When match confidence falls below your threshold, we hold the gate, log the event, optionally notify the guard, and let the resident open the gate from their phone with a single tap. The fallback is the experience.
What helps the camera: 1080p+, IR illumination at night, mounting angle ≤30° from plate, 25–40 px plate height in frame, no fog of dirt on the lens. We publish a setup guide; most installs need a single afternoon with your low-voltage contractor.
